Cabin 7249 - Ocean Suite
We booked this cruise during the pandemic in 2020 so we had completely forgotten what kind of room we had booked. We were quite pleased to see that we had booked an ocean suite! Suites are usually a little bigger than other balcony rooms and come with a few perks like priority boarding and bottles of water.
Our ship is the Carnival Splendor and was originally built for Costa Cruise Line, but they cancelled the order before the ship was done. Carnival then swooped in and bought the ship. It is a Spirit class ship and we actually cruised on this ship once before in 2019. Bill has said that this ship feels familiar to him, but we both had forgotten that we have sailed on it once before. That cruise left from Long Beach and went to the Mexican Riviera.
The first thing that we noticed about our cabin is the sheer number of mirrors. There are mirrors everywhere! 3 large panel mirrors hang on the wall behind the bed, there is a small mirror underneath the television, the desk area has a mirror wall, there is an almost full length mirror when you walk in the door, the walk in closet has a mirror on the wall opposite the closet doors and then the standard mirror in the bathroom above the vanity. It can be alarming to constantly see yourself in the mirror, but the amount of extra light that it lets in makes the room very bright.
The balcony is much larger than the standard balcony rooms and it has been nice to have a spot for fresh air. We spent some time on the balcony yesterday as we cruised through Fiordland Park, but it was cold and rainy so the time was limited. Instead of being outside we took in the sights from the couch and our comfy bed. I am sure that we will find ourselves out there more as the cruise continues.
The bed is a comfy cloud and yet another reminder that we love Carnival beds and bedding. Carnival does sell bedding for home use, however their sizing is different than our king sized bed. There is a nightstand on either side of the bed and a ledge behind us to house our charging station for phones, watches and other items. It is also the perfect size for Bill’s CPAP machine which has been very nice. In the past we have brought magnets with us to string the extension cord along the wall to avoid any tripping hazards. If you are not aware, cruise cabins are mostly metal so you can stick a magnet to pretty much any surface which allows for more storage.
On Bill’s side of the room is a floor to ceiling closet. His clothes fit nicely there with lots of room to spare! Next to his closet is a set of drawers which house the rest of his clothes. On the counter above the drawers is our room safe and television. We also have a lovely couch area (which folds out to be twin bed), with a small table and an arm chair. This where most of the blog posts have been written so far. Our room steward has been leaving our towel animals on the top of our couch which is always a cute surprise.
Next to the couch is the desk area. There is another chair at the desk with a lamp, our room phone and a glass shelf over the desk. This is where our mini fridge is stored. We haven’t had a use for it just yet, but there is still plenty of time left on this cruise.
Just before the door to our cabin is the walk in closet. This is where my clothing items are stored along with makeup and hair stuff. Just past the walk in closet is our bathroom. We have a step in tub with a glass three panel door. Directly across from the shower is a double sink vanity so we both have plenty of space for our personal hygiene items. The only issue that we have had so far is that it can be a tight squeeze to enter the bathroom when one of us is in the closet.
Our cabin steward Rudy has been great. He is from Indonesia and this is the last cruise of his contract so when we leave the ship, he will be going as well. He is excited to go home after 7 long months on board. Bill and I are typically late risers while on vacation so I am sure that Rudy would like us to be out and about earlier so that he can get his work done sooner. Rudy just kindly smiles at us and tells us that this is our vacation when we apologize for our lazy morning/early afternoon routines.
We are located towards the front of the ship which has been a very quiet location. We can hear our neighbors and people talking when they walk down the hallway, but we are away from the bars, elevators and stairs. All in all this room is very comfy and is a nice place to hunker down for our 12 day cruise.
I am including some pictures of the room that I snapped before we unpacked our luggage. I have been told by a few that we should be taking more pictures and I assure you that we are! In fact we have probably taken more photos than ever on this cruise. We will be sure to add more to our previous blog posts and our future posts to come.
